ICOODB 2008 is the First International Conference on Object Databases in this century, and it takes place in Berlin, Germany, on March 13 and 14. It is a unique opportunity for scientists, the industry, developers and students to meet in person and exchange insights on object databases.  This conference is aimed at people with an interest in object databases, in innovative ways to bring objects and databases together and in alternatives / extensions to relational databases / mappers.

The conference is organized by an independent committee, headed by Prof. Dr. Stefan Edlich (TFH-Berlin) and James Paterson (Glasgow Caledonian University), and supported by ODBMS.org, ODBMS Vendors, leading publishers, and presented by TFH-Berlin. The conference will take place at the University of Applied Sciences TFH-Berlin. On Thursday, "Science Day", the focus will be on the the theory of object databases  whereas Friday, "Application Day", will focus on their practical use and implementation. Papers for the Science Day will be peer reviewed by the review committe. For more information on keynotes, talks and conference tracks please have a look at the schedule page!

Object databases are the right choice for a certain class of application, to save developers cost and time and help them to build more feature rich OO applications. They enrich the database space that is sometimes seen as being entirely filled by relational databases and O/R mappers. Thus one of the purposes of this conference is to support a better understanding where to use ODBMSs and why. In this spirit we would like to invite you to join this conference, propose a paper or a talk, show a poster or simply visit or get in touch with us. If you are interested in this topic in general visit odbms.org and read the expert articles or browse the free section containing lecture notes, tutorials, articles and more.
